Google Search Tools: How to Use It


There is hardly anyone in the 21st century who hasn’t heard about Google. Even some people think only about Google when it comes to internet. Whenever we need to find something, learn something, locate someone, want map of some place we search in Google. There hardly passes a day when we don’t use Google. Google search results are pretty much amazing! Most of the time you’ll find your required information in the first page. But sometimes it doesn’t work. In some cases, a simple keyword even a plain text won’t bring you the desired result. If that happens with you, do not worry. You can easily filter your results with the help of Google search tools. Google search tools are some mechanism that refines your search and brings you the perfect result when a simple text or keyword doesn’t work.

To understand, let’s take a look at this example. Go to your web browser and from there go to Google. In the search box, type Apollo 13 and then click search. Apollo 13 is an old movie which would turn 20 this 2015. Generally Google shows result of the recent movies. But what would you do to find the information when the movie was released that time? It’s easy and simple. You just need to refine your search.

In the search result page, you’ll find a link named “Search Tools” right at the top of the page. Click it. You’ll see a drop down list with three options. There’ll be an option named ‘Anytime’. Click it and you’ll see different time periods such as last hour, last day, last month, year etc. now we want to look at the last option, year. Select the year option and then you’ll have to set a time range. Apollo 13 got released in June, 1995. So in this case, we can set the time range from May, 1995 to July 1995. Hurray! You are done! Now all the search results will appear from that period of time only. Like this, you can also filter your search result by calendar date.

Sometimes, it is needed to insist Google about the search term you are using. Suppose, you are looking for an unusual computer error. In that case, you’ll need to look for information that contains exactly the same phrase you are searching and little else. For this, you’ll have to go to the search result page, click search tools, then click all results. You’ll find a drop down menu. From there, select Verbatim. It is done! Now all the results will appear that contain exactly your search phrase.

The last search tool Google offer will make your search result appear based on your location. People generally use this location filter for local shops, markets, coffee shops, restaurants etc. you’ll have to check if your location is correct. Otherwise, you need to set your location at first and then use this search tool.
